Our side by side test
We took a 9 page PDF of handwritten notes, photographed on a phone, 8.25 MB in total. We compressed it with iLovePDF using Recommended compression, and with our own Recommended mode.
iLovePDF returned 832 KB. We returned 707 KB, about 15% smaller. Then we compared every page with the original using SSIM, a standard image quality score. Our pages scored higher on 8 of the 9 pages, because we kept more resolution and tuned each photo separately.
| iLovePDF Recommended | PDF File Compress Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| File size | 832 KB | 707 KB |
| Image width per page | about 1090 px | about 1270 px |
| Average SSIM vs original | 0.949 | 0.960 |
| Pages with higher quality | 1 of 9 | 8 of 9 |
What works differently
- Your browser compresses the file. iLovePDF processes it on its own servers.
- You can type an exact limit such as 100 KB, 200 KB or 1 MB instead of picking a preset.
- We tune every photo and scan on its own, so we spend quality where you will see it.
- The page keeps working offline once it has loaded, with no upload wait on slow connections.
